Installing energy efficient windows is a smarter, greener choice to stop heat (and money) flying out the window. Modern double and triple glazing can save the average home money each year. As energy prices continue to increase, this investment should be more valuable in the coming years.
Types of windows
Energy efficient windows can be double glazed or triple glazed, dependent on your home type and requirements.
Double Glazing
Even if you’ve had double glazing for years, the technology has come a long way, and upgrading may benefit you. Modern double glazed windows still have two sheets of glass, with a gap of around 16mm. In older double glazing, the glass panels can be too close together, or the sealing may no longer be very effective at keeping warm air in. Choosing the biggest gap is not always the best solution, but our expert double glazing partner can tell you what’s best for your home.
Triple Glazing
As the name suggests, triple glazing has three sheets of glass, creating two air gaps in between. This can make it better at insulating than many double-glazed windows, but it’s not always the case. Triple glazing can cost more than double glazing but can add value in places where temperatures drop, or there’s excessive moisture in the air. A reputable installer will be able to advise if triple glazing is the smartest choice for your home.
